To check if you've become anonymous you can use one of the numerous web pages created specifically for this purpose. Here are some examples:
http://privacy.net/analyze/
http://www.rental-web.com/~azuma/cgi-bin/env.cgi
https://www.magusnet.com/cgibin/printenv.cgi (secure protocol)
On these pages you will need to look for a parameter called
"Remote Address" or "Remote Addr" - this is the address from which the web server
receives your request for the page. Without A4Proxy it will be the IP address
of your ISP but when A4Proxy is running and has been configured correctly, Remote
Addr will display the IP of the proxy server from the database of A4Proxy.
Do not forget to configure your browser correctly. Also make sure that A4Proxy is not in the Direct Connection mode (Options menu in A4Proxy), in this mode anonymous proxies are not used and A4Proxy connects to the sites directly.
Compare the IP and hostname which are shown without A4Proxy (or when A4Proxy is set to Direct Connection, Options menu) and with A4Proxy in anonymous mode.
